Police to begin massive arrest of face mask violators in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has warned residents to ensure proper use of face masks or face arrest.

The command said it has noticed that most residents have either jettisoned the directive or now place the masks beneath their chins as decoration.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Hakeem Odumosu, in a chat with The Nation on Tuesday, urged Lagosians to own the battle against further spread of COVID-19 in the state.

According to Odumosu, the police and other law enforcement agencies have the mandate of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to arrest and prosecute violators of COVID-19 prevention protocols, adding that there will be no sacred cows in safeguarding public safety.

Already, Odumosu said the command arrested 3,802 persons between April and June for not wearing face masks, adding that all the suspects were charged to court and sentenced accordingly.

He said: “We have been enforcing the law. We have arrested 3,802 people for not using face masks and 12,900 suspects were held for flouting various COVID-19 guidelines since the commencement of the lockdown in April. They were all charged to court.

“But we are going to be stricter now because we have noticed that some people do not wear at all while others hang it on their chins. That is not the purpose for the directive.

“The face mask must be properly worn to cover the mouth and nose. That is how it will serve its purpose. Our people must know that the policy is for their safety and that of society.

“As soon as you step out of your house into public space, you should have your face mask on, worn properly. It should be that way until you return to your private space. Wearing a face mask is compulsory just as social distancing is compulsory. You cannot do one and leave the other.

“For emphasis, we will arrest those who put the face mask on their chins and also arrest those not wearing it.”

Checks across Amuwo Odofin, Isolo, Egbe Idimu and Oshodi areas of the state showed that most residents were nonchalant about the use of face mask and social distancing.

The police source insisted that there might be a mix up by the legal representative of Seyitan over claims of being arrested and detained by Police operatives at Ikeja in Lagos for 24 hours.

The security official insisted that the alleged rape victim was only invited to give her written statement and also to be interrogated as it was necessary for her to come forward to give a statement to back up her accusation.

I rape women during operations. It is better Police kill me than take me back to prison ― Suspect

A 27-year-old self-confessed robber and serial rapist, Adeniyi Ajayi, yesterday disclosed that he raped women and maids in the presence of their husbands and bosses, as punishment for refusing to give him money, during operation.

According to vanguardngr, rather than showing remorse for his action, Ajayi, who is an ex-convict, begged the Police to kill him, instead of sending him back to prison. The suspect, who runs a one-man squad, was arrested in a hotel at Ijora 7-up area of Lagos.
His modus operandi was to break into victims’ homes, ordering them to cooperate with him or risk being killed by other members of his gang whom he claimed had surrounded the building.

When news of his arrest filtered round Sabo and its environ, eight victims, some of who were civil servants and lawyers, stormed SARS office to affirm that he raped them during operation.

Among them were also two female staff of a company in Sabo, who disclosed that he raped them right before their male colleagues, in broad daylight on June 16, 2020.

During interrogation, he admitted culpability. He said: ”Yes, I rape women whose husbands refused to give me money, and those tried to make things difficult for me during operation.
I operated alone, with just torchlight. But I would be giving orders to my imaginary gang members, on where to position themselves, just to give the impression that I was not alone.

The solution to this act is for the Police to waste my life because if they take me to prison, I will come back hardened and I don’t want to keep disturbing Nigerians. It is better they waste my life. They should just kill me to end it all.” 📸: Vanguardngr

Y’all errand boys need to calm your skinny chest and continue hunting girls for big boys cos nobody is arresting a broke man. They only arrest big boys. It has to be a Christmas, not iTune gift cards. “If they arrest small boys, you won’t hear it on news. It’s not news worthy. “LMAO. Y’all a bunch of clowns. I see through your DMs. You only survive on others like leeches. Nobody is arresting a leech or errand boy. Chill, go outside, do some sit ups to broaden your chest. Who are you hiding from? “If errand boys hide, who will get us plantain from Sharjah? Come outside ooo”.

The couple Chris Ndukwe, 39, and Olamide Alli, 25, were said to have been dating on and off for over 7 years. They have a seven-year-old son and then had a second son, three years ago. However, trouble started when Chris began to doubt the paternity of their second child, insisting the child isn't his.

''There have been an issue that has been coming up about the second child. He planned to get married to her in August. He had told friends about it. This is the most confusing for everyone. He had called a comedian earlier to tell him he was going to be the MC at the occassion. He had told our older friends that are doctors that they would accompnay him to go do the normal legal rites.'' he said .
The friend said Chris and Olamide were never living together.

He said Olamide usually takes the boys to the house to see Chris. He said on Saturday they went for jogging and when they returned, she offered to give him dinner.

Later that night, she went to his room to spend some time with him while her sister was in the room with the boys, and that was when he committed the murder-suicide..
