This is really denting to our image as a people , but like I always say ,fraud does not represent who we are as Nigerians . Hardworking . dedicated, committed.

As thousands of Nigerian participants and investors continue to groan and moan, some even cursing, over the ‘crash’ of the popular ponzi scheme, otherwise known as MMM, investigations has revealed that one Chuddy Anayo Ugorji, popularly referred to as “The MMM-Nigeria number one Guider,” may have allegedly raked over N5billion within a year from the embattled system.

An analyst says Nigerians (figure yet to be compiled) lost in excess of N8.765billion to the scheme. Many people borrowed loans and some sold their properties to be able to participate in anticipation of funding the Christmas and New Year with the profit margin that was to come with their principal.

The meteoric rise of one of the world's largest Ponzi schemes in Nigeria

[b]In spite of the government's warnings against it, many Nigerians continue to invest in Mavrodi Mundial Movement (MMM), a Russian company that was responsible for one of the world's largest Ponzi schemes of all time.

On 13 December, the company said it was 'freezing' all confirmed accounts. While many that are opposed to the scheme believe the suspension may be an indication of an imminent collapse, MMM Nigeria assured its members it was only freezing the system for a period of one month.
"The reason for this measure is evident. We need to prevent problems during the New Year season, and then, when everything calms down, this measure will be canceled," the administrator said in a message sent to all members.
In spite of the indication that things may not be in order with MMM, Ifeanyi Okoro and some other members remain confident in the scheme.

Ben Murray-Bruce Reacts To Data Price Increase. See Comments From Angry Nigerians

I will fight against this data increase in the Senate. The NCC, as a regulator, should be directing that GSM firms reduce and not increase tariffs!! In my opinion, rather than direct GSM firms to hike rates, NCC should invest in free public wifi for the advancement of knowledge in Nigeria. It is very unjust for people whose fuel, power and GSM plans are paid for by the people to increase fuel, power and GSM plans for the people without increasing the minimum wage! If the government is desperate for money then they should tax something that mainly the rich enjoy. The money they are looking for can be gotten if they tax all Business and First Class tickets.

Nigerians Condemn FG Over Plan To Increase Data Tariff.

NEWISSUES, Abuja

By Haruna Yusuf

Nigerians all over, home and abroad, and on social media have come out to condemn the Federal Government’s directive to telecom providers to increase the tariff for calls that last beyond 3 minutes and that of data subscription.

It was complete outrage on social media with Nigerians calling the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari from clueless to waiting for him to just go by 2019 without bothering to contest. These are comments from notable Nigerians.

Profesor Moses Ochonu from USA wrote:- “They have directed telecom providers to raise tariffs on data plans. The CBN governor says tariffs should be raised for calls that last beyond 3 minutes. After raising the price of petrol and causing the price of rice, foodstuffs, fertilizers, and other commodities to rise to astronomical levels, they have invaded the communication sector to raise more money to subsidize the expensive bureaucracies and political patronage of the ruling elites. With the implementation of the new telecom tariff structure, hungry, deprived Nigerians will no longer be able to use communication technology to share their stories of misery and commiserate with one another. What is the name of this ideology being implemented? I ask because even neoliberal capitalism is not this cruel. Where will they raid for revenue next? What will they tax next? The roads Nigerians walk on? The air they breathe? There is a concept called disaster capitalism, which essentially argues that a crisis or disaster provides capitalists and their allies in power with a perverse opportunity to push through far-reaching anti-people, exploitative, and unpopular reforms and changes in the name of responding to said crisis–changes that would never be tolerated in normal times. It now seems that, having taken the economy into recession, the Buhari administration is using the same recession as an excuse to deprive Nigerians of any essential commodities and services they can still afford and pursuing recovery on the back of struggling citizens. Instead of inspiring pro-poor interventions and empathies, the deepening recession has become an opportunity for the Oligarchs of the ruling APC to raid the population for revenue to maintain their privileges in a time of economic contraction and reduced oil revenue. A responsible government sees crisis as an opportunity to demonstrate its empathy for beleaguered citizens. This administration sees it as an opportunity to fleece them.”
