Obaseki receives PDP Certificate of Return

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Uche Secondus, on Saturday presented the party’s Certificate of Return to the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki.

He said the party was delighted to have the governor, who he said has seen first-hand, how the system and processes work within the PDP.

Secondus also presented the INEC nomination form to the governor.

In response, Obaseki said, “All that is left for one this afternoon is to tell you how I and my deputy are grateful to this great party. “In our hours of tribulation when we were pushed out in the raging storm you gave us the umbrella. By the grace of God, victory is going to be ours at the end of the day. “I want Mr. Chairman to thank my co-aspirants for being gracious enough to take the painful decision to step down after committing so much.” Obaseki also announced that he was running with his deputy governor, Philip Shuaibu, saying, “You don’t change a winning team.” Two of his co-aspirants who stepped down, Keneth Imasuagbon and Gideon Ikhine, also attended the event.

Gov Wike pulls out of PDP reconciliation in Edo state,

Gov Wike pulls out of PDP reconciliation in Edo state, vows to fight those attacking him in PDP.

I told them that in Edo State, we must handle the issue carefully and carry everybody along. They must respect human beings and not behave like tax collectors.

They said because an order was obtained from a  Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, then I am responsible. .
I don't dislike critics, but I dislike people pontificating from a position of Ignorance - Chinua Achebe.I have had sleepless nights to resolve the issue in Edo state. The Governors of Edo, Adamawa, and Delta states, know what I have done to resolve the issues in Edo state.

As a result of this senseless accusation, I have pulled out of Edo State settlement. My integrity matters.

I have also directed my lawyer to write ThisDay Newspaper on the publication they made against me in their Tuesday,23rd June, 2020 edition.I know the members of the National Working Committee of PDP who connived with ThisDay. They are tax collectors. Let them challenge me and I will come out with more facts.
Nobody will rubbish me by raising false accusations against me. I will fight back.I will no longer participate in any reconciliation and I wonder why the NWC now wants to consult Governors of the party.
Why did the NWC not consult with Governors in the case of Bayelsa State? If PDP is not careful, the crisis in the All Progressive Congress (APC) would  be a child's play.

I am brought up not to accept injustice, and that is why I keep speaking out on national issues. Nobody in PDP can intimidate Rivers State.Nobody can threaten me because I said things must be done constitutionally. I will always continue to satisfy my conscience.
From now on, I want to concentrate on the development of Rivers State.

Court stops Obaseki from PDP primary

A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has barred Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State from participating in the Peoples Democratic Party governorship primary slated for Thursday, June 25, 2020.

According to the court documents, which were made available to our correspondent, the suit was instituted by one of the governorship aspirants on the PDP, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, who had vowed not to step down for Obaseki.

Ogbeide-Ihama, prayed the court to stop Obaseki from participating in the primary on several grounds.

A major reason by Ogbeide-Ihama was that Obaseki recently joined the party and that only those who purchased the forms during the stipulated window before the waiver granted Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress, should be allowed to partake in the primaries.

While the primaries of the PDP was scheduled for June 25, the Independent National Electoral Commission had fixed the governorship election for September 19, 2020.

Obaseki: Some APC governors are supporting me

Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo state, says some governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are still supporting him despite his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Obaseki announced his defection to the PDP on Thursday following his disqualification from the primary of the APC.

The APC panel had cited “defective” certificates as the reason for screening him out of the race.

But speaking with reporters after being screened by his new party, the governor the same certificates that the APC rejected were the ones he presented to the PDP screening committee without any issue. “The screening was fair, it was very professionally done. You could see objectivity and I presented all my certificates- my secondary school, higher school, university and my National Youth Service Certificates, so that they can look at them and see if there are inconsistencies in them. You can ask the screening committee if there are any inconsistencies in any of them.” On his support base, he said: “I thank God that I enjoy national support not just from my colleagues from the APC. I think the support is national. There are elder statesmen who are apolitical, there are traditional rulers. “I have people from different spectrum of the society who come around to support. Generally, I think Nigerians are generally fair-minded people. They are people who do not accept injustice. “From what I have seen over the past several weeks and months, the support is just across board. It is not just from APC governors alone.” If he clinches the PDP ticket, he would swap roles with his rival in 2016. Osagie Ize-Iyamu, whom he defeated in the last governorship election, has crossed over to the APC and he is believed to enjoy the support of the leadership of the party.

Adams Oshiomhole, suspended national chairman of the APC, is believed to be supporting Ize-Iyamu.

Oshiomhole was instrumental to bringing Obaseki to power.

UI management confirms Obaseki’s certificate

UI management confirms Obaseki’s certificate

The Management of University of Ibadan (UI) has confirmed that the Edo state governor, Mr Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki, graduated from the institution.

According to a statement by the university’s Registrar, Mrs Olubunmi Faluyi, the Governor gained admission to the university in 1976 and graduated in 1979 with a Second Class Honours (Lower Division) in Classics. “Records of his admission and graduation are intact in the archives of the university.” the statement said.

Governor Obaseki of Edo State had earlier dismissed the allegations of certificate fraud as baseless, unfounded and diversionary, calling those raising eyebrows over his academic qualifications, as mischievous.

Obaseki’s Special Adviser on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, challenged the accusers to approach the issuing institutions to verify the authenticity of the particulars.

Some opposition leaders in the state’s chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been accusing Obaseki of presenting a fake certificate, saying he did not graduate from the premier university. The UI statement will draw the curtain on the supposed certificate scandal crisis.

Obaseki has been in a running battle with his predecessor Adams Oshiomhole over the second term ticket. The latter, who is the National Chairman of the APC, has vowed to ensure the governor does not get a second term in office.
