THE kidnappers arrested in connection with the killing of the Human Resources Manager of Dangote Industries Limited, Bello Istifanus Gurama, have adduced reasons for their action.

Gurama had gone to pay a ransom of N5.6 million to the kidnappers for the release of five expatriates that they kidnapped.

They had demanded for N100 million ransom.

Following the continuous crash of the naira, Africa's richest man,Aliko Dangote,has dropped off the list of the 100 richest people in the world.

Dangote who was listed as the 51st richest man in the world as at March 2016, had dropped to 101 as at the start of business on Monday.

For the fourth year running, Dangote retained his position in Africa as the richest man on the continent. Dangote who was number 43 on the top 100 world billionaires list in 2013 made a quantum leap as he moved up 20 spots to retain his position in Africa and to also occupy 23rd position in the list of the world’s richest people.

Bill Gates came back on top after a four-year hiatus, reclaiming the title of world’s richest person from telecom mogul, Carlos Slim Helu of Mexico, who ranked No. 1 for the past four years. Gates, whose fortune rose by $9 billion in the past year, has held the top spot for 15 of the past 20 years. Spanish clothing retailer, Amancio Ortega (best known for the Zara fashion chain), retains the No. 3 spot for the second year in a row, extending his lead over Warren Buffett, who is again No. 4.

Finance Minister, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has asked the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to provide evidences of expenditure of the disputed $10.8 billion unremitted oil revenue or remit to the Federation Account.

Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja, the Minister cautioned all departments and parastatals, to desist from making further pronouncements over the issue because checks and balances are not yet completed.

“The Federal Ministry of Finance is to ensure that the maximum amount of revenues flow into our national coffers – whether from oil or from non-oil sources, she said.

Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, plans to invest up to $8bn to build a Nigerian oil refinery with a capacity of around 400,000 barrels a day by late 2016, the tycoon told Reuters on Tuesday.

This will almost double Nigeria’s current refining capacity.

“This will really help not only Nigeria but sub-Saharan Africa. There has not been a new refinery for a long time in sub-Saharan Africa,” Dangote said in a telephone interview.
