The Presidency further stated that the programme does not have a place for hard boiled, ideologically hardened terrorists. PRESIDENCY STATEMENT ON THE SUSPENSION OF MR. IBRAHIM MAGU

A series of documented allegations were made against the Ag. Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Following a preliminary review of the allegations leveled against the Ag. Chairman and several other members of his staff, there were grounds for a detailed investigation to be conducted.

Hence, an investigative panel was constituted in compliance with the extant laws governing the convening of such a body.

As is the proper procedure, when allegations are made against the Chief Executive of an institution, and in this case an institution that ought to be seen as beyond reproach, the Chief Executive has to step down from his post and allow for a transparent and unhindered investigation.

The EFCC does not revolve around the personality of an individual, and as such cannot be seen through the prism of any individual.

Therefore, the suspension of Mr. Ibrahim Magu, allows the institution to continue carrying out its mandate without the cloud of investigation hanging over its head.

The EFCC has many good, hardworking men and women who are committed to its ideal and ensuring that the wealth of our country isn’t plundered and wherein there is an act of misappropriation such person(s) are brought to justice.

Meanwhile, Mr. Magu is being availed the opportunity to defend himself and answer the allegations against him. This is how it should be, as is the fact that under the Laws of Nigeria every citizen is presumed and remains innocent until proven guilty.

We must realize that the fight against corruption is not a static event, but a dynamic and ever evolving process, in which the EFCC is just one actor; and as we continue to work towards improving our democratic process so shall every institution of ours also embark on that journey of evolution.

What is however important is that there must be accountability and transparency and our people must realize that they would be held to account. This is the building block in the fight against corruption, the establishment of the concept of Accountability and the recognition of the Rule of Law.

He was also grilled on disposal of assets worth N37 billion by Justice Ayo Salami-led Presidential panel. The allegations were reportedly levelled against him by Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN).

Vanguard reported that the panel started quizzing Magu on Monday after his arrest by detectives in Abuja. On Tuesday, he was grilled on cash discrepancies said to be N539 billion realised from the sale of seized assets and N504 billion declared by the commission.

The suspended acting chairman of the anti-graft agency was grilled on the ground floor of the Federal Criminal Investigation Department, FCID, Area 10, Abuja and it was also learnt that the AGF raised about 20 allegations against him.

774,000 jobs: Only Buhari can stop recruitment process - Keyamo dares NASS

774,000 jobs: Only Buhari can stop recruitment process - Keyamo dares NASS after shouting match

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of State for Labour who was spotted earlier having a shouting match with some lawmakers, has stated that the national assembly members cannot suspend the selection committee of the National Directorate of Employment’s 774,000 recruitment exercise.

Keyamo who insisted that only Buhari can suspend the process in a statement released after the rowdy session at the national assembly, alleged that the Joint Committees on Labour of both the Senate and the House tried to “control the programme as to who gets what, where and how”.

The Minister directed the state selection committees to proceed with the recruitment process as he insisted that the lawmakers cannot control such.

He said in the statement;

“PURPORTED SUSPENSION OF SELECTION PROCESS OF 774,000 JOBS BY NATIONAL ASSEMBLY COMMITTEES: ALL STATES’ SELECTION COMMITTEES SHOULD PROCEED WITH THEIR WORK UNHINDERED.

Today, in obedience to their invitation, I appeared before the Joint Committees on Labour of both the Senate and the House. The Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members sought to be briefed on the implementation of the Special Public Works Programme so far. However, there was a misunderstanding between us when they questioned why I did not privately submit the program to them for vetting before taking certain steps.

They suggested that they ought to have an input on how the programme should be implemented. In other words, they sought to control the programme as to who gets what, where and how. However, I insisted that I could not surrender the programme to their control since their powers under the Constitution does not extend to that.

They insisted on a closed door session. At this point, I remarked that it was only fair for me to respond to their position before the press, since their own position was also made public. In any case, I remarked that the Nigerian people deserve to know the details of the execution of this all-important programme. I was then asked to apologize for insisting on a public interaction and I said there was nothing to apologize

Former Governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose has lashed out at President Buhari over the crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress.
Fayose in his tweets shared on Saturday night, said Nigeria is currently being managed by "strange bedfellows" who took it by conspiracy and deception. He stated that what is happening to the APC in Edo State is a pointer to the "helpless situation the country is currently in." President Buhari Sacks Security Details Over Aso Villa Crisis

President Muhammadu Buhari has fired his security details and other persons in Aso Villa over the role they played in the crisis between his wife, Aisha, and Sabiu 'Tunde' Yusuf, his assistant.

Those fired by Buhari on Wednesday included his Chief Personal Security Officer, Chief Detail to President, ADC to the First Lady, Escort Commander, ADC National Defence Council, and 37 others from the villa.

SaharaReporters had on Tuesday exclusively reported that President Buhari, who was deeply angered by the embarrassing crisis in Aso Villa, was preparing to fire his security details and some top aides for the roles they all played in dragging the Presidency into the mud.

It was gathered that President Buhari decided to take the step after Mamman Daura, his nephew and one of his closest confidants, was seen weeping as he made his way to his office.
Daura was said to have informed Buhari that his security aides were not only after Yusuf’s life but his own as well.

Buhari gave the nod for all persons involved in the alleged threat to the lives of the two men to be removed.

The crisis started with Yusuf's refusal to embark on a 14-day isolation period after returning to Abuja from a trip to Lagos last week.

This led to the arrest and eventual redeployment of the Aide De Camp to Mrs Buhari and other security details attached to her after it was claimed that they threatened to kill the President's Assistant in the process of trying to get him out of the Villa.

Inside sources say the latest step by the President could further stir the bad blood among different power blocs in Aso Villa, especially with the First Lady vowing to take a pound of flesh for being embarrassed by Yusuf and other 'cabal' members.

Mr Obaseki had also revealed he would take a decision on his membership of the APC after meeting with the Nigerian leader.

Edo 2020: I will make next move after meeting Buhari – Obaseki

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has said that he would be making his next move after meeting with the President Muhammadu Buhari. Obaseki made this known via his Twitter handle on Sunday.

He tweeted, “I appreciate the sustained show of solidarity, support, and goodwill from Edo people and Nigerians in the face of injustice by the @OfficialAPCNg screening committee. I will be making my next move known after I complete consultations with my supporters and meet with @MBuhari.” The PUNCH reports that the Screening Appeal Committee of the All Progressives Congress had upheld the disqualification of Governor Godwin Obaseki from participating in its governorship primary in Edo state.

The appeal committee presented its report to the National Working Committee headed by Adams Oshiomhole on Saturday.

The committee led by Dr Abubakar Fari cited discrepancies in the dates on Obaseki’s University of Ibadan certificate.
Presenting the committee’s report, Fari said, “It is inconceivable that the same University will award two certificates with separate dates for the same graduate. We also find it difficult to vouch for the authenticity of his National Youth Service Corps certificate, there is no indication as to where he served. “We find that he should be disqualified.” Earlier, the screening committee of the party, headed by Prof Jonathan Ayuba, on Friday disqualified the governor and two others from participating in the party’s June 22 primary. The other two aspirants who were disqualified are Chris Ogiemwonyi and Mathew Iduoriyekenwen. Iduoriyekenwen was later expelled from the party, according to the National Working Committee of the party on Saturday.
The NWC headed by Oshiomhole also upheld the decision of the appeal committee.
Those cleared to take part in the primary were Mr Osaro Obaze, Dr Pius Odubu, and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

In the report received by Oshiomhole, Ayuba noted that Obaseki claimed to have obtained a Higher School Certificate from the Institute of Continuing Education in Benin but that he did not produce the certificate and that the document he did not produce the certificate and that the document he produced only attested to his attendance. He said further that the governor’s NYSC certificate reads ‘Obasek Godwin’ and that while this could be an error on the part of NYSC, the governor never took any step “to correct the anomaly.” Credit: punchnews

PDP reacts to shooting at the Presidential villa following an alleged fight in President Buhari's family

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has reacted to the alleged shooting and security breaches within the precincts of the Presidential villa, just after report of an alleged fight in President Buhari's family gained attention on social media.

The opposition party in a statement released by its spokesperson Kola Ologbodiyan, expressed worry that the protracted spat between wife of the President Aisha and his aides degenerated into violent combats, raids and free use of firearms within the Presidential villa.

The PDP said the alleged incident points to the ''failure by President Buhari to provide leadership that can guarantee orderliness in governance and effectively ensure the security of the nation.''

The statement reads;

“Our party is disturbed by such ugly situation in the Buhari Presidency, which has already heightened apprehensions in the public space over the apparent failure of security architecture and central command system in the presidency leading to such reckless and irresponsible breaches.
“The chaotic situation in the Presidential villa only points to the failure by President Buhari to provide a leadership that can guarantee orderliness in governance and effectively ensure the security of our nation.
“The PDP notes that such leadership failure at the highest level has further exposed why our nation has been bedeviled by myriads of security and economic problems under President Buhari’s watch in the last five years.
“More worrisome is that the Buhari Presidency had failed to speak out on the frightening situation so as to reassure Nigerians and douse the tension in the polity; especially at this critical time when our nation is facing serious security challenges.
“The PDP therefore calls on President Buhari to take immediate steps to restore order in his Presidency and shield our security system from the division and power tussle among persons close to him.
“Our party also demands for an immediate inquest into the security breaches as well as the alleged violation of COVID-19 ban on inter-state travels by officials and relations of Mr. President, which was reported to be part of the immediate causes of latest disturbances in the Presidential villa.
“Furthermore, the PDP urges the National Assembly to save the nation by wading into the persistent infighting in the Buhari Presidency especially as those in charge of the Presidential villa have not demonstrated the required capacity to engender the needed orderliness for productive governance."
