ASUU threatens to go on strike AGAIN!


The Academic Staff Union of Universities has said that its members should not be held responsible if there is any disruption in the University system, as the Federal Government had not shown commitment to carrying out the 2019 Memorandum of Action.

A former President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Humphrey Asobie, on Thursday advised the anti-corruption agencies to be holistic and go for the ‘big fishes’ in the fight against corruption..

Mr. Asobie, who was the chairman of the board of the Nigerian Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative, NEITI, made this call while speaking as the guest speaker at the International Anti-Corruption Day (IACD) 2016 roundtable discussion hosted by the United States Embassy.

ASUU Strike- Union Vows Not To Back Down Until Demands Are Met

Chairman of the University Of Calabar Academic Staff Union Of Universities (ASUU), Tony Eyang, has said the union will not back down until its demands are met.

ASUU commenced a two-week warning strike on Wednesday, November 16, in protest of the Federal Government's refusal to implement the 2009 Memorandum of Understanding with the Union among other issues.

Speaking to Vanguard on Thursday, Eyang expressed regrets that the Union had to resort to the industrial action.

Following the meeting of the Acting Vice Chancellor and all heads of department, Readers and Professors held today, Monday, 14th November 2016, it has been resolved that the on-going 2015/2016 Harmattam Semester examination will progress as scheduled.

MINISTER OF FINANCE TO ASUU "WE CANNOT MEET YOUR DEMANDS", STRIKE TO CONTINUE

The minister of finance and the Cordinating Minister of the Nigerian Economy,  Mrs Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala authoritatively said that the Federal Government can't meet the N92billion demand made by ASUU, this justifies the deadlock between the Federal Government and ASUU yesterday, this is so sad, that means students would remain at home for some while more, the negotiating teams are set to return to the negotiating table next week Wednesday, lets pray a deal is reached as ASUU has decided not to back down on their demands.

Meanwhile a protest held yesterday in freedom square Lagos by students protesting their prolonged stay at home, hope the authorities would listen to their plea.

GOOD NEWS:ASUU TO CALL OFF STRIKE NEXT WEEK, SEE DETAILS

There are reports of a breakthrough is some outstanding issues tabled before the Federal Government over the strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
This bit of information was disclosed yesterday when the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim inaugurated the “Universities Needs Implementation Committee”, with Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam as its chairman.
Suswam said all outstanding issues have been resolved except two, which bothers on pending payment of allowances and upgrading of universities physical infrastructures.
He said he can not guarantee when the strike would be called off bur all things being equal, there is a likelihood that the lecturers will return to work next week.

ASUU BEGINS NATIONWIDE INDEFINITE STRIKE

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has commenced indefinite strike  nationwide  today,  national president of ASUU, Dr Nasir Isa Fagge has said.

He made this declaration, Monday, at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) after their NEC meeting held at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State.
