“When I was in the university, I was a member of the Pyrates Confraternity.

Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the September 19 gubernatorial election in Edo state has denied pouring acid on a fellow student during his undergraduate days at the University of Benin.⁣

In 2016, the former Chairman of the APC and ex-governor of Edo state, Adams Oshiomhole had alleged that Ize-Iyamu poured acid on a student.⁣

Debunking the allegation on an online television programme in Benin on Sunday, July 5, 2020, the politician said contrary to the claim, he drew the attention of the then university management to the plight of the student.⁣

He said despite the fact that he ensured the student got first aid treatment, he and others linked to the incident were rusticated because the identity of the culprit was never known.⁣

Narrating the incident, he said, “When I was in the university, I was a member of the Pyrates Confraternity. At that time, we didn’t look at it as a cult arrangement but some people were already coming in with tendencies to create problems. We had this very confrontational group and one evening, somebody reported to us that they beat up a final year student who was also close to us and they mentioned the names of those involved, and we said no, this is bad.⁣

“Don’t also forget too that I was a students’ union leader, very prominent in the students’ union congress. So, myself and some persons who heard about this complaint said let’s go and see the people concerned and talk to them.⁣

“We went there and met with the people concerned. They opened the door for us and we were discussing the matter under a very cordial atmosphere only for some people to come in and before we knew it, there was smoke in the whole place and somebody shouted acid and was screaming. It was then I realised that somebody has poured acid on somebody and I quickly rushed to the security post. I brought them in and we took the young man to get first aid treatment.⁣

Bukola Saraki distances himself from Hushpuppi

Bukola Saraki distances himself from Hushpuppi following APC's call for an investigation into his alleged link with the suspected fraudster

Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has distanced himself from Hushpuppi after the ruling All Progressives Congress APC called for an investigation into his alleged links with the suspected fraudster who was recently arrested in the United Arab Emirates and extradited to the United States.

APC in a statement released by its National Publicity Secretary Yekini Nabena today July 4, called on the relevant security agencies to investigate the links Hushpuppi had with some PDP stalwarts.

The party said the investigation is necessary considering the fact that many of PDP chieftains had several meetings in Dubai ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The statement read in part;

''That the PDP leadership turned Dubai into their “Strategic” meeting place ahead of the 2019 general elections in Nigeria and “Hushpuppi’s” affinity with the PDP leadership is not mere coincidence.

At different times, “Hushpuppi” was been photographed in Dubai meeting with the PDP’s 2019 presidential candidate, Alh. Atiku Abubakar; former Senate President, Bukola Saraki; former Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; Senator Dino Melaye among other PDP stalwarts.

While relevant authorities investigate the nature of their relationship and business partnership, we also challenge the PDP leadership to do same by opening up on the nature of the relationship, particularly the kind of services the arrested “Hushpuppi” provided them.'' APC's statement read

In a swift reaction, Saraki in a statement released by his media aide, Yusuph Olaniyonu, described as irresponsible and cheap politics the statement from APC in which it tried to link him with Hushpuppi.

Saraki in the statement said he has no form of association with the said suspect, Ramon Abbas otherwise known as Hushpuppi and neither does he know him in any way.

“The statement credited to the APC, the ruling party in our country, is one of the ways by which our anti-graft agencies are weakened and why the fight against corruption in the country is often viewed with

suspicion by the international community. This is because when these cyber-crime suspects were operating freely and openly displaying wealth, the APC saw nothing bad in their activities. Also, the party at that time did not deem it necessary to call on the anti-graft agencies to investigate their activities.

Also, since the arrest of those cyber crime suspects and the subsequent damage to the image and the economy of Nigeria as well as the crisis it created for Nigerians engaged in lawful businesses across the world, the ruling party had been muted. The only time the APC deemed it necessary to make a statement was when it thought it should play dirty, cheap and irresponsible politics.

Dr. Saraki was the only political leader who has publicly made a statement through an Op-Ed article published in the Daily Trust newspaper of July 1, 2020 titled “Cyber Criminals: Confronting The Few Who Dent Many” and this opinion article had been widely circulated online and on other platforms. In that article, he strongly condemned the activities of these cyber criminals and called on the law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders to make decisive interventions to checkmate their activities. He has also got a research institution, the Politeia Institute, whose board he chairs to commence a research on the best ways to tackle the menace.

Such a noble intervention in tackling a menace is what Dr. Saraki believes in, not mudslinging and playing politics at the expense of the nation’s image. At this point, we call on the APC leadership to rein in the so-called Yekini Nabena and compel him to desist from making and circulating such malicious, odious and offensive claims”, the statement concluded.

APC Crisis: Oshiomhole bows out

Immediate-past National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole said he has accepted the decision of the National Executive Committee NEC to dissolve the National Working Committee NWC which he chaired until Thursday.

He said President Muhammadu Buhari had two years ago invited him to come and reposition the APC and that since the president in his wisdom has also agreed to the dissolution of the NWC, he is bound to obey him as the leader of the party.

Tinubu on Alleged Presidential Ambition: “Let’s Recover Our Economy First, 2023 Will Care for Itself”

All Progressives Congress stalwart, Bola Tinubu, says he pities those saying his purported ambition to be President in 2023 is dead.

Tinubu said this in a statement on Saturday while reacting to the dissolution of the National Working Committee by President Muhammadu Buhari.

He said, “To those who have been actively bleating how the President’s actions and the NEC meeting have ended my purported 2023 ambitions, I seek your pity. “I am but a mere mortal who does not enjoy the length of foresight or political wisdom you profess to have. Already, you have assigned colourful epitaphs to the 2023 death of an alleged political ambition that is not yet even born.” Tinubu, who did not deny or affirm whether he had a Presidential ambition, said there was no time for such due to the current Covid-19 pandemic.

He said he would rather busy himself with how to ensure the economic recovery of the country.

The former Lagos State governor stated, “During this period, I have not busied myself with politicking regarding 2023. I find that a bit distasteful and somewhat uncaring particularly when so many of our people have been unbalanced by the twin public health and economic crises we face. “I have devoted these last few months to thinking of policies that may help the nation in the here and now. What I may or may not do 3 years hence seems too remote given present exigencies.” He said he had toiled for the success of the APC just like any other individual and he would continue to make sacrifices to ensure that the party remains on the path of progress.

Tinubu added, “I have toiled for this party as much as any other person and perhaps more than most. Despite this investment or perhaps due to it, I have no problem with making personal sacrifices (and none of us should have such a problem) as long as the party remains true to its progressive, democratic creed. Politics is but a vehicle to arrive at governance. “Good politics promotes good governance. Yet, politics is also an uncertain venture. No one gets all they want all the time.

Ex-Oyo Governor, Ajimobi, Is Dead

Former governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, has died.

According to details, the 70-year-old former governor had been on life support since last Friday, at the First Cardiology Hospital, Ikoyi, Lagos State after he slipped into coma following coronavirus complications.

Ajimobi finally lost the battle, as he’s died on Thursday, according to findings by Sahara Reporters. On Monday, a reliable source close to the ex-governor had told SaharaReporters that Ajimobi had been on life support machine after he slipped into a deep coma and may not make any recovery going by the observations of medical experts around him.

Recall that his aides last week announced that he has recovered from the virus but was being treated for other ailment.

The source who spoke to SR further disclosed that the former Oyo governor had a lung surgery since being rushed to the Lagos hospital but made no progress while his kidneys had also failed.

Doctors treating Ajimobi, it was reliably gathered, last Friday informed his family that his situation had defied every medical intervention and that only a miracle could bring him back to life.

Those projections came true on Thursday as the ex-governor finally succumbed to the virus that has also killed several prominent Nigerians including late Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, Abba Kyari, who was also treated for the disease at First Cardiology Hospital until he died.

On June 18, it was rumored that Ajimobi passed on from coronavirus complications as a result of underlying health conditions.

It was later debunked by his aides and family members as untrue, but that he was recovering from another illness.

Reports emerged three days ago that the Senator’s health deteriorated and was allegedly placed on life support after undergoing lung surgery but his kidneys failed.

Gov Wike pulls out of PDP reconciliation in Edo state,

Gov Wike pulls out of PDP reconciliation in Edo state, vows to fight those attacking him in PDP.

I told them that in Edo State, we must handle the issue carefully and carry everybody along. They must respect human beings and not behave like tax collectors.

They said because an order was obtained from a  Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, then I am responsible. .
I don't dislike critics, but I dislike people pontificating from a position of Ignorance - Chinua Achebe.I have had sleepless nights to resolve the issue in Edo state. The Governors of Edo, Adamawa, and Delta states, know what I have done to resolve the issues in Edo state.

As a result of this senseless accusation, I have pulled out of Edo State settlement. My integrity matters.

I have also directed my lawyer to write ThisDay Newspaper on the publication they made against me in their Tuesday,23rd June, 2020 edition.I know the members of the National Working Committee of PDP who connived with ThisDay. They are tax collectors. Let them challenge me and I will come out with more facts.
Nobody will rubbish me by raising false accusations against me. I will fight back.I will no longer participate in any reconciliation and I wonder why the NWC now wants to consult Governors of the party.
Why did the NWC not consult with Governors in the case of Bayelsa State? If PDP is not careful, the crisis in the All Progressive Congress (APC) would  be a child's play.

I am brought up not to accept injustice, and that is why I keep speaking out on national issues. Nobody in PDP can intimidate Rivers State.Nobody can threaten me because I said things must be done constitutionally. I will always continue to satisfy my conscience.
From now on, I want to concentrate on the development of Rivers State.

Court stops Obaseki from PDP primary

A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has barred Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State from participating in the Peoples Democratic Party governorship primary slated for Thursday, June 25, 2020.

According to the court documents, which were made available to our correspondent, the suit was instituted by one of the governorship aspirants on the PDP, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama, who had vowed not to step down for Obaseki.

Ogbeide-Ihama, prayed the court to stop Obaseki from participating in the primary on several grounds.

A major reason by Ogbeide-Ihama was that Obaseki recently joined the party and that only those who purchased the forms during the stipulated window before the waiver granted Obaseki and his deputy, Philip Shaibu, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress, should be allowed to partake in the primaries.

While the primaries of the PDP was scheduled for June 25, the Independent National Electoral Commission had fixed the governorship election for September 19, 2020.

Obaseki: Some APC governors are supporting me

Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo state, says some governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are still supporting him despite his defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Obaseki announced his defection to the PDP on Thursday following his disqualification from the primary of the APC.

The APC panel had cited “defective” certificates as the reason for screening him out of the race.

But speaking with reporters after being screened by his new party, the governor the same certificates that the APC rejected were the ones he presented to the PDP screening committee without any issue. “The screening was fair, it was very professionally done. You could see objectivity and I presented all my certificates- my secondary school, higher school, university and my National Youth Service Certificates, so that they can look at them and see if there are inconsistencies in them. You can ask the screening committee if there are any inconsistencies in any of them.” On his support base, he said: “I thank God that I enjoy national support not just from my colleagues from the APC. I think the support is national. There are elder statesmen who are apolitical, there are traditional rulers. “I have people from different spectrum of the society who come around to support. Generally, I think Nigerians are generally fair-minded people. They are people who do not accept injustice. “From what I have seen over the past several weeks and months, the support is just across board. It is not just from APC governors alone.” If he clinches the PDP ticket, he would swap roles with his rival in 2016. Osagie Ize-Iyamu, whom he defeated in the last governorship election, has crossed over to the APC and he is believed to enjoy the support of the leadership of the party.

Adams Oshiomhole, suspended national chairman of the APC, is believed to be supporting Ize-Iyamu.

Oshiomhole was instrumental to bringing Obaseki to power.

Court of Appeal upholds Oshiomhole’s suspension as APC chairman.

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has upheld the suspension of Adams Oshiomhole as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Oshiomole had approached the court after a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja suspended him from office following a suit filed by some members of his party from Edo state.

Recall that on March 4, Justice Danlami Senchi of an Abuja High Court sitting in Jabi, suspended Adams Oshiomhole as National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC. The suspension order was granted following a suit brought before the court by some APC members in Edo state who argued that Oshiomole cannot continue to enjoy the rights and privileges of the party since he has been suspended in his ward in his home state. The presiding judge, Justice Senchi held that the party wrongfully kept Oshiomhole as the national chairman of the party despite his suspension from his ward. The judge ordered that Mr Oshiomole should stop parading himself as the chairman of the APC.

Shortly after the ruling, Oshiomole approached the appeal court for redress.
However, in a unanimous judgment delivered today June 16, the three-man panel of the Court of Appeal led by Justice Eunice Onyemanam, affirmed the order of Oshiomole's suspension that was issued by the High Court Abuja on March 4, 2020.
Justice Onyemanam held that the FCT High Court had territorial jurisdiction to have entertained the suit as it did. The court in its ruling, withdrew Oshiomole's rights and privileges as the National Chairman of the party including his security details.
According to the court, the suspension of Oshiomole from ward 10 of Etsako local government was ratified at the ward, local and state level as required by law and the identity of those who suspended him was not in doubt.

Oshiomole and the Edo state governor, Godwin Obaseki, have been at loggerheads over who is to dictate the affairs of the party in the state. The political difference between both men took a different turn today as Obaseki official announced his resignation from the party.
Oshiomole emerged chairman of the ruling party in June 2018.

Edo 2020: Obaseki resigns from APC

The governor has blamed his ordeal on the APC national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, with whom he has been involved in a bitter fight. The Edo governor is expected to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) whose leaders he has been meeting with since the APC’s decision.
