Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, has condemned an Upper Sharia court that sentenced a singer to death by hanging for blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad in Kano state.

According to him, there is no difference between the ‘blasphemer’ and those who sentenced him to death.
Yahaya Sherif Aminu was sentenced to death by hanging in Kano State for insulting Prophet Muhammad in a song he shared on WhatsApp in March.

According to the upper Sharia court judge who sentenced the singer, Alkali Aliyu Muhammad Kani, the accused could appeal the verdict within 30 days.
Reacting to the court sentence, Shekau in an 11 minutes audio which was shared on Twitter by Humanangle publication.

Shekau expressed that he believes that it is public knowledge that all schools of Islamic jurisprudence opine that whoever insults the Prophet should not be asked to repent.

He stated;

"He should just be killed. If you really sentenced him, we should only hear that you slaughtered him"

Shekau added that Kano is not an Islamic State, calling it a land of infidels where democracy is practiced.

Abdulaziz was accused of saying that Sheikh Ibrahim Inyass, an influential cleric in West Africa, was ‘bigger than Prophet Muhammad.”

The news of the sentence of Yahaya Sherif Aminu which took place on Monday, August 10 has since sparked outrage from many Nigerians and even foreigners.

Many have called on International human rights body and even the Federal Government to intervene and help overturn the judgment.
